Hi I'm Alison, I had a basal ganglia stroke in March 2024. I've had a strong recovery, and when I was one year post stroke I launched a Podcast "One Year On" to share my experiences as I'd had a lot of people call my recovery inspirational. I thought maybe through the podcast, and me sharing my experience, I could help some other stroke survivors in their recovery too.
I have continued this as weekly episodes now for 15 months and am up to 70 episodes. I've started interviewing people whose insights I thought would be interesting to my audience. A speech pathologist, physiotherapist, my husband, the CEO of Posit Science creator of BrainHQ, and Dr Lisa Murphy, CEO of the Stroke Foundation and I'm still interviewing and inviting people to interview.
Lisa and I were interviewed back in 2024, as part of National Stroke Week, for a radio interview, which I found out Lisa had conducted in the car watching her son play sport. I was happily ensconced in the radio station's booth with the two wonderful hosts. In this interview I chat to Lisa about all things stroke. She is able to provide a perspective that not many people have. Not only being a medical doctor, she sees stroke from a very wide perspective and that's an invaluable space. The Stroke Foundation provides so much to so many.
I invite you to listen to the episodes with Dr Murphy. (I recorded it, and have split it into 3 parts. This is the first part:
