Hello, I had a stroke and was in a month long coma in 2017, 2 years ago.
I still have not recovered enough I can not walk or talk properly, I have double vision and I cant taste sweet flavors, life is very boring atm. I was wondering what is the usual time to recover because I think the average is around 3 years but can take 8.
I have had the same type of stroke , bleed at the spinal meets the brain , I was out for 20 days , usual breathing tube for the first 4 days , and oxygen for a month , got my answer last week , nearly 2 years on , not what I wanted to here , but as the sign says , never give up , after 5 years some one I know finally walked , out the nursing home. the length of time is a hard question , it could take 8 years to recover but then recovery might not happen, the main thig is you accept the inevernable , but always remember, never give up. Everyone’s stroke is different and in some cases recovery can continue for many years after a stroke.
It’s important to talk to your GP about changes you notice in your recovery. Sometimes another burst of rehabilitation can be helpful if you feel that your recovery has plateaued.
Would it be helpful to explore some options for your leisure time to help relieve the boredom you mention? Have you considered joining a stroke support group? This link has a list of groups across Australia.
