I've heard that magic mushrooms could help with mental disorders, can magic mushrooms could rebuild the brain after stroke? Does it worth a try? What do you think?

Hi Mary
Have read a bit about psychedelics and brain connections and more is being learn`t as time goes on.
The problems seem to be legality, the paper work that needs to be done and small tests. One thing that I did note, was that tests were done with 1/4 dosage of what it takes for a full blown trip, 3 mushrooms instead of 12. In the end it is an individuals choice to make with the information available.
Hi Mary,
Thank you for your enquiry to EnableMe, you raise an interesting question! It sounds like you have been doing some reading on this topic, and it’s great that you are checking in before trying this.
There is currently no research to indicate that magic mushrooms help with stroke recovery. You’re correct in saying that there is some preliminary research being done in relation to the therapeutic potential of Psilocybin; however, as you mentioned this is largely in relation to other diagnoses. As none of this research is in relation to recovery from a brain injury, we can’t assume the same effects.
In addition to this, the Stroke Foundations Clinical Guidelines recommend against using amphetamines to improve ADL function.
In general though, the research is limited. We recommend caution interpreting the results of these studies as some drugs have been found to cause stroke rather than remedy it. We would strongly recommend talking to your doctor to obtain further information on this topic.
