Hi all, I had a stroke post surgery on the 7th August 24. Physically I am not too bad, my right side has minor deficit. (I had a PFO closure while still in hospital). However my fatigue levels are really high. I had physio on Tuesday, where I did some balance board practice and some step ups, about 10mins work in all, but I challenged my body and by the time my physio and I were back in his office, the fatigue had hit and I was constantly yawning. I spent the next day in bed, I could barely keep my eyes open, I was exhausted. I know everyone is different, but is this level of fatigue "normal". Thanks
Hi Deb, Completely normal! I remember sleeping so much. It’s the body’s reaction as it tries to heal. It will get better. Best not to try to fight it and rest when you need to. The advice from my neurologist at the time was to listen to your body.
Echoing Robert's response. Mine was to the point I had to plan each day beforehand, sometimes even at each mealtime during the same day. If you think something 'effortful' is coming up, perhaps try to rest as much as possible before or after it so you don't empty your tank completely. It does improve over time, so please be kind and patient with yourself. Celebrate your wins no matter how small they may seem to you, and keep doing your rehab :)
Hi Deb, I plan my day so that I can get a good 9 1/2 hours sleep. I'm sure we are all different though as to how much sleep we need. I feel so much better when I am not feeling fatigued and yawning all the time. My Cardiologist said the sleep is healing the brain injury caused by the stroke so best to get as much as you need.
