Hi Everyone, My father had stroke 4 months ago that affected his left side (arm and leg) so he can not walk at the moment.

I was his carer for one month straight away after he got out of the hospital and he has been doing Physio for 3.5 months but the recovery progress is very slow specially for his left arm. He is now overseas in one of the developing countries which there is no much facilities and rehabilitation equipment there.

I'm going to visit him next month so I was wondering based on your experience if you could suggest any kind of exercising equipment that is easy to carry with me for him and it would help for his recover.

Thanks in advance for sharing your experience and I wish fast recovery for all patients on here.

Hi Cherif,

Thank you for your post. I’m sorry to hear about your father’s stroke and the ongoing challenges he has with his arm and leg.

Is your father being seen by an Occupational Therapist and/or Physiotherapist currently? It is challenging to recommend specific exercise equipment as stroke recovery is very individual. I would suggest speaking with the therapists and ask them to advise you on the most appropriate equipment, based on your father’s needs and rehabilitation goals.

Please feel free to contact us on StrokeLine (1800 787 653 AEST, Monday-Friday) if you would like further assistance. My colleague Simone is an Occupational Therapist and she works on Mondays-Wednesdays.

Best Wishes,

Hi Lisa,

Thanks for your reply.

My father is now in Canberra. Can you please advise me with a list of recommended centers or clinics in Canberra who are specialized in stroke physiotherapy and rehabilitation.

Thank you

Cherif

Hi Cherif,

It seems we've responded to your query over the phone today.

Best wishes to your father,

Hi Cherif

I'm sorry to hear about your father.

One of the best pieces of equipment my sister got for me in Canberra at Aldi. It looks like this: https://bit.ly/2uPBGJI

You can use it for the arms but also for the feet. That's how I use it, I wheel up to it in my wheelchair to cycle. A carer puts my feet in the pedals.

Good luck

Rachel

Oh so sorry to hear about your father

Oh so sorry to hear about your father

I am asking for a family member who doesn't use the internet. But are there any recommendations for proven and specifically designed stroke rehabilitation devices ? As opposed to just using regular exercise equipment etc.
