How long does it take for a PFO to close after amplatzer device is installed to close the PFO?

HI SUsie, Sorry to hear about your husband's strokes. Following a strokea nd tehn 3 TIAs  I had a PFO closure in 2017 and am interested in any responses you get as follow up bubble testes were never suggested after my procedure. Thankfully I haven't had any further strokes or TIAs since the closure and hopefully it stays that way :)  Maybe your husband could call the Strokeline and talk to them about the procedure and also his anxiety and depression

My closure is on 25.9.19, this month.  Having just the right information is helpful to me. Hearing different stories is a learning experience for me.

I am glad to hear that you are reaching out for support from the stroke community.  Feeling worried after a stroke is very common, particularly when you have a number of medical questions and concerns on your mind.  Your husband is very lucky to have a wonderful advocate in you.

Recovery after a medical procedure such as a PFO closure can be different for each individual.  There are a number of avenues you can explore to help answer your question.

1. Give your cardiologist a call and explain your husband’s circumstances, concerns and ask your questions. Getting information directly from your husband’s doctor will be most accurate and relevant.  If you feel that you would benefit from an earlier face to face review with the cardiologist, you can request for an earlier clinic appointment.
2. Review your husband’s risk factors for stroke with a neurologist or GP.  This ensures that you have a clear understanding of his risk factors and are working to minimise his future risk of stroke while you are waiting on your next cardiology review.
3. Talk to your GP, who can assess your husband’s circumstances and follow-up with your cardiologist if you are needing more support with this.

Hi, sorry to hear of your husbands stroke. I hope he is recovering well. 

Whilst I have not had PFO closure, I've been looking at this and have come across various online groups which discuss issues like this.  From the feedback given from people in various parts of the world, everyone's heart tissue grows over at different rates. Some may get closure at 3 months, others 12 months and everything in between 😁.  Some, may even be left with minimal bubbles crossing even after closure, but it is still deemed better than the amount of bubbles crossing prior to closure.  Hang in there.  It may still be too early for his pfo to have fully endothelialised. And speak with your cardiologist about any concerns you/he have.  Best wishes.
