Hi, my dad aged 74 had a stroke 8 weeks ago, and a brain bleed a week after this. He has no movement on his left side. For the first 2 weeks he was getting fed by a tube. He has progressed from eating mashed food and thickened drinks to cut up food and normal drinks, which is great. He has been in the Rehab Hospital now for 3 weeks. He suffers alot of pain in his leg and shoulder, which he gets medication for. They are concentrating on his core muscles, to strengthen them up. He can sit for short amount of times without leaning over, which he couldnt do 2 weeks ago. They are saying that he isnt progressing enough. My family go twice a day, helping him with his meals, moving and massaging his arm and leg. We also attend physio when we can. He has no control of his bowels and has a catheter in. He will be devastated if he has to go into a nursing home, as he was a very active person, doing everything for himself. How long do they normally keep u in Rehab for? What more can we do, to explain to the doctors to give him a chance to get better, at least enough that we can have him at home rather than a nursing home?
