Hi all.  I am new to Enable me.  I had a stroke on the 5th of December.  Luckily I recognised the signs and First Aid had oxygen on me within 10 minutes and at the hospital within the hour.  CT scan showed no stroke but my MRI on the 7th did show I had 2 small strokes (strokes not TIA) to my Cerebellum.  I lost function to my left arm and hand for over 28 hours.  I have sensation and movement in the arm but it is very weak and can get quite heavy depending on the day.  My hand is coming along but my little finger and my thumb seem to still have soreness, stiffness and funny sensation in it.  Can anyone recommend resistant band exercises for these?  Thanks.  Jasmine

Hi Jasmine,

Welcome to the EnableMe community! I am sorry to hear about your recent stroke.

I recommend speaking with your doctor about the soreness, stiffness and unusual sensation you are experiencing in your hand. If you also let your GP know that you are interested in ongoing therapy to improve your arm strength, he/she may refer you to an occupational therapist (OT) or physiotherapist (PT).

OT/ PT are able to work with you to develop a rehabilitation program based on your needs and goals. Treatment often includes practicing movement and everyday tasks (repetition is key to improvement). If you are specifically interested in resistant band exercises, let the therapist know so they can factor this into your program.
