Sleep and Fatigue Treatment Study - Seeking Volunteers

My husband would have liked to do this - he has had very disrupted sleep since the stroke and also suffers from extreme fatigue. Due to his dyspraxia of speech he was not accepted into the study. I find this really disappointing. He was also not admitted to our local rehab hospital following his acute MCA (left hemisphere) stroke because according to the medical director "he could walk". At private rehab he had a session with a pyschologist but it was a complete waste of time because the session was only set up for a patient who could "talk". Speech loss is a major disability following stroke yet so many of these "services" exclude patients from therapy because they can't speak!!! Sorry feeling very frustrated and that a loss of speech is disregarded.

Thank you for sharing your frustration. I understand why you are disappointed that we were unable to accept your husband into the study and I apologise that we aren't able to accommodate for loss of speech at this time. Unfortunately in a controlled research study such as ours, we have to adhere to strict inclusion and exclusion criteria in order to determine whether our treatment is beneficial. In the future we hope to expand this criteria so we can assist more individuals with a wide range of disabilities post-stroke.
