Hi All.
I have been a StrokeSafe Ambassador in South West Vic since 2012 and love every minute of being able make people in my community aware that Stroke is real and Stroke can stroke any time, any where regardless of age or health status.
A couple of weeks ago I lost a friend and work colleague to Stroke, she was only 43 years of age and been suffering migraines all day and couldn't shake it off so she called an ambulance and was able to walk to the ambulance but somewhere between leaving home and arriving at the hospital, my friend had fallen unconscious and was declared brain dead, machines were keeping her alive but two days later they were switched off and she passed a few minutes later.
When I found out that it was a stroke that killed her I started questioning myself on my ability to be a StrokeSafe Ambassador and if I was doing enough to educate people about stroke and Stroke prevention but I realised there is nothing more that I can do but to continue to educate people on stroke and Stroke Awareness so my next StrokeSafe Ambassador Talk will be dedicated to my friend and will share this story with others.
