How has stroke changed the way that you eat?

Eating well after stroke can lower your risk of having another stroke, but changing your diet is easier said than done!

We are looking for Stroke Survivors to share their experiences by completing an online survey and interview.

We would like to find out more about how eating has changed for you since your stroke:

  • Do you eat different foods? At different times of day?
  • Do you plan or shop differently?
  • Do you have any devices or tips that help you prepare foods?
  • What challenges do you face?
  • What is it that you think us researchers need to know about eating well after stroke?

We will use your experience to make programs to support Stroke Survivors to eat well.

Interested? We would love to hear about you experiences.

Not sure if my experience helps, but I had to learn to swallow after my stroke. Different foods have different levels of risk for me. Now, I have always a glass of water next to me when I eat - precaution!

Wow, it sounds like you have come a long way in your recovery Michael! Your experience is exactly the kind of thing we would like to learn for our study.

At the moment, advice is to eat a healthy diet - but not much information on how to support the needs of stroke survivors. We hope to use what we learn in our study to make programs specific to those needs.

As I was fed through a tube for sometime, I had to 're-learn' to swallow. They used 'thickened water' to teach me. Also, now, my food has to be spicy (at least 3 chillies rating!) unlike before the stroke.
