Hi Everyone
I have been involved in a Telehealth Memory Skills Group delivered once a week for the last six weeks over Zoom. (Skype like situation) .This research project is through Monash University.in Melbourne..
I chose to participate in this research program as I do support the possibilities of such programs reaching stroke survivors who are in isolated situations, who aren't able to access face to face rehab. I was also very curious about what I might learn along the way which would be of benefit to me.
The initial process began with detailed information being sent out to me regarding what would be involved. Yes this was a bit of reading however explanations were very good and clear as to what the purpose was of this memory study.
Once I had signed all paperwork I had some thinking situations which I needed to respond to - a bit like an assessment - I did let David know that I hadn't had a good experience of these situations in hospital so he was aware of my nervousness about this part of of the research!!
Over the weeks we have covered subjects such as:
How memory works in our brains (very interesting)
A bit of brain education
The affects of stress on memory
Nutrition and exercise affects on memory
Technology Apps which aid in memory
The importanct of sleep.
Lots of discussion about what particular memory aids work for you as an individual and space to talk about this.
There are some homework tasks along the way to gain the most out of this group.
And lots more information which I have to keep and refer back to.
I have begun to journal and make diary entries which are linked to what I learn't over the weeks to keep track of some things which I found useful. Sleep patterns, fruit and veg intake.. exercise.
Has anyone else participated in this Memory Skills Group?
Would anyone like information on how to get in contact regarding participation?
Sue
