We’re so sorry to hear that your mother has had a number of strokes recently.

You aren’t alone. There are many others who also wonder whether they or their family will have more strokes in the future. It’s a question that we unfortunately don’t know the answer to.

What we do know though is there are a number of things your mother’s team and you can do to support in reducing the likelihood of having more strokes.

It takes you through the key things to think about.

The first and most important one is knowing why your mother’s stroke happened. We call these risk factors. Her doctors will be able to tell you what these are and how they are being managed.

You did mention she has high blood pressure. High BP is a common risk factor of stroke. Check in with her doctors to be reassured that her blood pressure is being managed as best as it can be. This Blood Pressure handout may help you start the conversation.

Ask your mothers doctors whether she has other risk factors.
