The Federal Government has announced almost $10m for stroke research which will lead to improved treatment options for all Australians.
This is critical research - stroke is not only one of Australia's biggest killers, it also leaves hundreds of thousands of people living with ongoing disabilities.
There are currently 450,000 Australians living with the impact of stroke and more than 120,000 of those are aged between 18 and 64. Stroke can affect anyone of any age.
Stroke impacts families, workplaces and entire communities, and the direct economic impact for Australia is over $6b each year. Yet 80 per cent of strokes are preventable.
We want to congratulate all of the researchers who have been granted funding today and we look forward to supporting your amazing work.
