Getting people to undertstand and to listen

Poor Jan. It really is hard. I'm just about 21 years post my bleed and it still is. Sometimes it's good to just go outside and watch nature.

He might then join you and you just leave the last topic and share new experiences. I'm lucky tho, we live amongst nature.

It's very hard for a non-stroke person to understand, think back to your stroke understanding pre-stroke. I know mine was none existant. Educating him through online resources may help, or giving him the task to explain things without using words, this will demonstrate how difficult it is.

I can't explain it, it must have been a fright I had when a very young person. Now as a victim myself I have a completely different viewpoint and go out of my way to chat to them.A lifetime's habits are hard to break. Last week I met a wheelchair victim I have seen around for quite a while, never even nodded to her despite having quick chat to her mother, her caregiver. Within minutes I felt horrified at my omission and got her name from my wife determined that next time we met I would make an effort to communicate.

You need to find a way for him to experience some of what you're going through and how hard it is. It won't help with explaining the word finding problem but how about getting him to talk to you with marbles in his mouth (like they used to do to train stammers) and then you can be extra critical and impatient when he doesn't speak clearly. But if he's not sympathetic to the issue I suppose he wouldn't agree to this either.Have you tried recording a message for him explaining what he's doing and how it makes you feel. If you can write it down and get a friend to read it for you.
