A coping mechanism of avoidance can prevent people from having potentially rewarding experiences that create happy thoughts and positive feelings and emotions. Anxiety frequently leads to insomnia. This can cause irritability and fatigue resulting in errors of judgment and increased risk of accidents. During this covid isolation, does anyone here experiencing this?

Hi Avaniterg,

Thanks for posting on EnableMe.

We certainly know that the impacts of the COVID-19 outbreak, physical distancing and isolation can make us feel anxious, stressed and worried and there are studies that link anxiety to fatigue. Being tired, emotional or stressed can also make it harder to think clearly.

While everyone feels anxious from time to time, for some people these anxious feelings are overwhelming and not easily controlled. Anxiety is more than just feeling stressed, it’s a serious condition that makes it hard to cope with daily life. It’s important to speak with your doctor or health professional. Treatment such as psychological interventions or behavioural management strategies can help.

The Australian Government has also made available 10 additional Medicare subsidised psychological therapy sessions each calendar year. These extra sessions are for people experiencing severe or enduring mental health impacts from the COVID-19 pandemic, and the measures needed to contain it.

Finally, don’t underestimate lifestyle factors. Having a healthy lifestyle can help you feel good in body and mind. Eat well and limit alcohol. Exercising regularly is especially helpful. Make time to do the things you love, and spend time with people who you love and who make you feel good. Find a trusted family member or friend to talk to about your feelings.
