Brain Training was an essential part to my recovery

Hello everyone, my name is Alison and I had a basal ganglia stroke in March 2024.  I have done well with my recovery and on the anniversary of the stroke I launched a podcast "One Year On" where I spoke about my experience.  I used several brain training apps to work on my cognitive function.  I wanted to understand how these apps were designed, and so contacted Posit Science, the makers of BrainHQ to see if they would participate in my Podcast.  I was fortunate to speak with the very engaging Dr Henry Mahncke, CEO of Posit Science, all the way from San Francisco, about brain plasticity, the brain training app and how they work on making your brain be faster and more accurate.

I would like to share this episode with you.  I have split the interview into parts and they are published one week after the other on a Monday.

Hello Alison,
OMG! You launched a podcast--wow that's big.
I will definitely listen to the episode you shared, I feel like i may have found maybe a kindred spirit ...

I had a massive brain hemorrhage in 2007. Yes, 2007 a long time ago now, but i have never stopped working on my physical recovery and even developed a vision recovery program based on the Feldenkrais Method and alternative approaches to healing. Atm i am working on making some of the very easy ways that you can help yourself, available on this and other platforms.

Anyway, great to hear from you Alison.

Wow Julie, that’s so great you’ve worked on such an innovative method. I would love to interview you to learn about that too, if you’re keen? Having a stroke is horrendous, and I’ve decided to make something of my experience by sharing with others what I’ve done. I’ve got over a year of episodes so there’s plenty to listen to. Most between 5-10 minutes long. Thank you for sharing your experience. Kindred spirits indeed!

Hi Alison,

Yes I hear you! Brain training games have been a big part of my recovery too! I  I look forward to listening to your podcast :-)

Nina :-)

Hi @Nina Wilde. Brain training has been such a wonderful and irritating part of my recovery.  I'm glad my post resonated with you.  I look forward to you listening you the podcast and welcome comments. Thank you

Hi Alision,

I enjoyed listening to the background of how brain research in brain training is translated into - why do it?

:-) Nina

Hello Alison, Julie Jarman here.

I sent you a message which apparently went to the nice EnableMe folk.

I wondered if you might share your contact details so i can contact you more easily, if need be?

I can be contacted on 0408 226 431 or at juliejarman5@gmail.com

I hope to hear from you to confirm our previous discussions regarding your podcast.

Cheers Julie

Hi Julie @Julie,

how strange they got a message.  I will send you an email, and we can continue the conversation.  I had got you through the FeldenKrazy site :) I thought you had received that.  Computers elude me sometimes... playing silly beggars!
Best wishes, Alison
