Hi everyone,
Hey with the topic of counselling up and running at the moment I thought I would bring something up which was a really difficult situation.
Counselling involves talking - work finding and expression. I found that due to my speech very early on there was no way I could express what I wanted. Are there therapists out there who will look for more creative ways of expression rather than the talking?
I ask this as I have worked in Out Of Home Care with kids and I know there were therapists out there doing play therapy. And I actually attended a work shop on it. It really got me thinking how this could be so well adapted to assist with someone who has difficult expressing in words.
I found my own ways of being creative and expressing over time. And once I began writing I found that a useful tool to take along to counselling.
Has anyone had counselling which has involved more creative outlets?
I know in a mindfulness course I did, we were asked to choose two plastic animals to represent how we were feeling on that particular day.
I chose a seal because I was feeling really slinky and supple as I had been doing yoga frequently.
And also a moose with antlers because thats how my brain sometimes felt sticking out of my head. Rest assured by the end of the session it felt like it was back in my head :-)
