Weekend conversation No. 7

I was born to Christian parents and grew up in the same faith from when I was a little child. Since surviving the stroke in Dec 2012 I have matured very much spiritually and that has helped me get a grip on depression/ anxiety that I had been facing for awhile after the trauma and has also given me hope for the future, resulting in my positive outlook to life.

I would like to know if Terre are others in our community of any faith who also have had a similar experience. HAs  your spiritual beliefs impacted life after stroke?

Hi Mahila,

First, thank you for your Weekend Conversation topic. I appreciate it.

I didn't what to be the first reply because I don't have any spiritual beliefs other that mindfulness and meditation. I suppose a very small part of my life has Buddhist thoughts and feelings. These have been heightened since my heart attack, stroke, and, recently, cardiac arrest, and of course, having aphasia.

I wouldn't have got to this far without some type of beliefs, but of me, mindfulness and meditation is the rock of my recovery and what will happen in the future.

Mahila. Thankyou for your interesting topic. Other than close friends and family I have not openly disclosed my thoughts for fear of being thought of as 'whacky'. My belief is a spiritual one, during tough times throughout my life my life I prayed for help and several times felt hands on my shoulders for strength. I was never sure whose hands , there was always a warmth about them and still is.

Marcus  meditation /mindfulness are part of my life. I use mindfulness to deal with chronic back pain as pain relief medication with side effects is a 'no no' for me.  I feel a relief that I have spoken of  my belief to people whom I trust. Thankyou Mahila and Marcus

Hi Jenny and Marcus,

thankyou for joining this conversation. I very much appreciate it and wish you nothing but the best in life in the future.  I have been recently asked by folks at church to address the women's fellowship to share my tepstimony. They say they find me (as a young stroke survivor) inspirational and feel they can learn from my experience as trials in life are common and don't discriminate.I am humbled to be doing this sharing on Friday.Reading  the various forums here on EnableMe. I find so many of my fellow survivors inspirational myself. My prayers are with everyone on here who are facing a struggle after stroke or caring for a love one touched by this trauma. May God bless you all. Love you.
