The Australian Stroke Coalition (ASC) has started a National Stroke Rehabilitation Taskforce (the Taskforce).
The Taskforce aims to make stroke rehabilitation better across Australia.
It brings people together to find and fix gaps in rehabilitation.
The main goals are to:
- Promote high-quality rehabilitation for everyone.
- Make sure enough funding is available for rehabilitation.
- Build and support the workforce that provides rehabilitation.
- Keep track of quality to make sure services keep improving.
We are looking for people with lived experience of stroke to join:
- the Taskforce Steering Group, or
- one of the working groups.
We need two (2) people to join the Taskforce Steering Group.
Other people with lived experience can join working groups.
The working groups will be formed after the Taskforce Steering Committee agrees on key priority areas.
You can download the draft Terms of Reference.
The first Taskforce Steering Committee meeting will be held online on:
- Friday 21 November 2025,
- from 2:00–4:00 pm AEDT.
We are looking for people who:
- have had a stroke and taken part in rehabilitation (in hospital or in the community)
- are a carer or family member of someone who has had a stroke and taken part in rehabilitation
- want to share their experiences to help make rehabilitation services better
- live anywhere in Australia
- are comfortable joining online meetings.
We encourage people with aphasia, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and people from culturally and linguistically diverse communities to apply.
- Join online Taskforce Steering Committee meetings and/or working group meetings
- Share your story or experiences of stroke rehabilitation
- Give feedback on ideas and projects
- Work with health professionals and others with lived experience
- Help identify priority areas for stroke rehabilitation
The Taskforce Steering Committee will have:
- two (2) online meetings, and
- one (1) in-person meeting each year.
Meetings can run for up to 1 to 2 hours (with breaks). There may be some reading or preparation to do before meetings.
The in-person meeting will usually be held at the same time as a major national stroke conference.
Extra meetings will be decided by members based on project needs. The Taskforce will run through 2026 and beyond.
Members of the Taskforce Steering Committee and working groups can receive a contribution fee for attending meetings and activities.
If travel is needed, costs will be reimbursed.
