'In that book, Dr. Taylor lists 40 things that she needed during her recovery – and we found them powerful lessons that everyone should know; caregivers, friends, family, and general public alike.

The first 8 topics on this last came from her. After this article was published, it quickly became one of our most popular. So we have updated it with the rest!'

Hi Marcus

I really like these reminders about how to respect the process of healing in the person who has had the stroke.

I use the word healing more often now , it's gentler than the word recovery.

Great share.

Hi Marcus

I loved that book and love her Ted Talks. I recite many of her list to people and she was so in tune. One of my poems I wrote was entitled 'I Understand' and came from her tip about not treating a stroke survivor like they weren't there. It is so important.

Here it is as a reminder for all.

I shall share this as a blog on my page this week, I think so the reminder is great.

Have a super week.

Sue and Shelagh,

Thank you for sharing your poem and thoughts about 'healing.' I have moved on from recovery to a more healing place, although is still have to deal with anxiety. But, hey, I survived a heart attack, a stroke, deal with aphasia, and a cardiac arrest, so I am allowed to be anxious about my classes and life every so often.  As you wrote Shelegh, we need 'buckets of patience' to find our own place in this crazy world, especially went you a dealing with aphasia in two languages.

I am getting there, little by little.
