Hi my names Colin. I’ve made limited contributions to this forum up til now, however during lockdown I learnt to get up off the floor independently, a long term goal. As my gym was off limits and my exercise physiologist was considered essential, I did weekly sessions on gym mats at home, plus 2 supervised practice sessions to master each step before learning next. I had not learnt from previous efforts by many physics so naturally over the moon to succeed. Im a12 year left sided stroke, estimated residual function 50% leg 0% arm. The technique probably best suits those with similar bad side. Counter intuitive it is based on pushing up with bad leg. It’s not pretty but works, I have learnt to be vaguely comfortable and not a panicked cockroach on the floor as I know I can do it now. My prior falls mostly in first year post rehab, mainly stupidity or over confidence. Touch wood I have not fallen since learnt, more care or less stupidity, dunno?. I suggest using a professional weekly to begin with and learnt on gym mats, plus supervised practice of each step, breathe and move slowly
