Anxiety of having a second stroke is understandable, as nobody wants to have another, after a couple of stroke free years the anxiety subsides, but putting your head in the the sand and not discussing it won`t help people, even if it upsets some. My second stroke happened 4 years after the first and according to stroke foundation statistics which I found recently, most people that have a second stroke, have in their 4th year, are others aware of this.
Hi George,
4 years after the stroke ... just finished my 4 years without a stroke, although I had a cardio arrest one year ago in the pool.
The unexpected should be unexpected.

After having a second one, I wanted to know why, as thought that I had changed my lifestyle and did not have stroke risk factors. Went for MRIs scans etc and a neurologist explained to me that I was on aspirin as a blood thinner and this had left a scab on the infected part of my vein and it had come off and traveled to my brain. Good, at least I was getting some answers. At the time of the second stroke I was trying to sell a residence during the GFC, had borrowed money, was shifting to a new residence and had relationship problems. Can look back at time now and realize that I was stressed a lot, but at the time was not thinking of that, this is one of the problems with stress, you cannot see it, but others can.
So it was a combination of things or a perfect storm and again lost a lot because of it. Mindfulness, had not heard of until recently, a healthy body is a healthy mind and a healthy mind is also a healthy body.
Hi George,
Good on you for coming forth and sharing personal information about you're life. It helps others not feel so alone.
All the best
Sue
