Hi everyone
In thinking about recovery and where I am at now - I read peoples stories and there is always a common theme, the one where suddenly we are way outside our comfort zone.
Being someone who enjoys a bit of humor I was wondering if anyone was wanting to share an experience of their recovery which made them laugh at themselves, at the time it may have been so uncomfortable but on reflection there is a funny side.
I'll start - and I laughed at myself so often so there are many I could share.
I remember the hour long walk to my local hospital to continue physio after discharge. I would set off with my back pack, water bottle, headphones and walkman (this was in the 90's). I would stride with purpose - probably very wobbly unbalanced striding with purpose - as I imagined myself as an elite athlete walking in an event. And then I would get that carried away - I would fall over.
The reason this memory makes me laugh and smile is that, I did not care how I may have looked to others in our small country town, I did not care that I fell over - as long as I didn't hurt myself, I did not care that I would turn up to physio already exhausted, - do a session and then walk home again. I was way out of my comfort zone yet knew this was the only way I was going to improve.
Does anyone else want to add something?
Sue
