Mom weak after stroke

Hi...

I'm a newbie and feeling elated that I have found this community.

My mom had her first stroke last year and I cared for her. I work as a Technical writer and need to move away for a year in connection to my job. I'm in a dilemma of what to choose... Missing the opportunity will make waste of my 15 years of hardship but I can't let go off my loving mom as well. She is weak and can't attend her needs and requires the aid of another. Can I shift my mom to a caring home just for a year? What things should I look into before selecting a caring home?

I'm wondering from the link in your forum if you are in the U.S.? In Australia, needing an aged care home for a year would be considered a permanent move, but if your circumstances change and you are able have your mum home again, you could. I suspect the same would be true overseas, but otherwise the systems are often very different.
