Every time I eat any food with a little extra sodium I get high blood pressure & it affects my whole stroke side. What foods can I eat e.g. like from a restaurant? My home cooking is fine as long as I watch sodium count on ingredients. e.g. pizza 2 slices got HBP next day.

the food you eat can effect you , salt is a definete no , the food you eat has enough. I would cut down or elimate pizza and fast foods as these are high in fats and salt , also watch what you drink as these can put weight on and sugar levels. just plain diet with no processes food is best and moderation.

Hi Dottie,

Yes salt and eating foods high in salt can affect your blood pressure levels. Eating out can be difficult, as you are less aware of and less able to control the salt content. As Garry said your best bet is to avoid foods that are known to be high in salt such as pizza and fast foods. If you are going to eat out occasionally it’s a good idea to request no added salt in your meal and ordering salads are often a safer or healthier option.

Here are a few useful links regarding diet:

Drinking more than two standards alcoholic drinks and not drinking enough water can also increase blood pressure.
