Hi Folks I'm John im 56 and had a TIA yesterday afternoon. Spent last night in hospital getting all the test done, i put it down to being over tired and a bit of stress. Ah well i was wrong i guess. I'm unsure on how to proceed. i do suffer from high blood pressure, im not really over weight and never thought this would happen to me.

reading some of the other stories it seems im not alone, and need to understand that. So it seems that i am more likely to have a major event if i dont look after myself a bit better??

This is all very strange to me as i have never felt the need to reach out. I'm hoping i may be able to get some support form you all ,other than just my family. Thanks.

Hi John,

Welcome to EnableMe!

It's good to have somewhere to turn to when you need it.

Information gathering to begin to make sense of what has happened is a good start for you and your family.

And hey - no judgement here about how you came about to have your TIA, just allow yourself to be you on EnableMe without thinking that someone is going to rap a big stick over your knuckles for any sort of "risk factor".

If you are on Facebook the Stroke Foundation have a great Facebook page which show the diversity of people who are impacted by stroke.

Cheers

Sue

Hi John,

Thank for reaching out.

Please give the team on StrokeLine a call 1800 787 653 a call. They are a team of stroke care health professionals and can answer your questions and have a good chat.

Here is a link to the Facebook page - thanks Sue :)

Thanks for the reply's. I will have a look at the Facebook group. having had a day to get our head around this we have come up with a plan. Although i will admit some of my senescence's have changed. Is that normal?? Such as taste and smell. Im off for my Doppler cardio today, so lets ee what that brings me.

Once again thank you for the support.

Hi John,

Good to know you're taking the TIA seriously as soem people I know just brush it off as a 'funny turn'. I've had three of them since my original stroke and soetimes find myself thinking how many warning do I get before the next big one but luckily those thoughts are getting less frequent. Ask whatever you want, as Sue said there's no judgment here and that also applies to whatever you ask/write.

Thanks Tony. its been a wake up call for me thats for sure. I had the test yesterday and all came back clear. Now i just have to wait until next Wednesday to see my GP.

Can i ask how many TIAs you have had?? and how far apart they where.
