Life is different, I have had four strokes, yes I applied NDIS to assist, but I was refused.
Disability? Aphasia still has a problem, to help not really. Yes I am staying in Whyalla, but no help at all. Does anybody has a stroke - NO.
I wonder?

Hi Rod,
Can I make a suggestion that you call StrokeLine 1800 787 653 they may have some more information about applying for funding through the NDIS.
It may be worth giving it another go.
Diana
I've been refused help from the NDIS too. I lodged an appeal immediately, so I'll see how that goes. In the meantime, life goes on. Is there any advocacy pathway in place for strike survivors? That might be very handy!
Sadly, it seems that the government is content with rolling out a flawed NDIS, as long as it's cheap and voters don't notice.
Hi Rod & David,
I am a Stroke Survivor and I work as a Local Area Coordinator - NDIS in partnership with the National Disability Insurance Agency.
My advice would be to reapply for access to the NDIS and before lodging your Access Form make sure you have supporting letters from the hospital stroke/rehab unit, your doctor, any therapists you see Physio, OT, Speech, Neurologist ask for supporting letters outlining the impact the stroke has had on your life, daily activities, family, carers and all the mainstream supports you currently receive and lastly ask the NDIA for a Stroke Impact Assessment form. Make sure you have all supporting documents before lodging the Access Form because if you lodge additional information it will push back the waiting time for approval. Currently the timeline for approval is around 3-4 months and for first plan build is around 2-3 months depending where you live. I know this because I have gone the through the access process recently.
I hope this information will help you.
Regards
Jayse
Hi Jayse
Yup there are heaps of documents since I had three strokes. I guess I can again re apply and yes I will add heaps of documents on me.
Life has a few problems but aphasia is still some days pretty bad. Anyway I will locate the application again and re send it.
But thanks
Rod Kison

ndis , yeah sure 12 months before you are even prcesed , no thanks
@Jayse,
Thanks for your input, I'm sure you are doing a great job in helping with the NDIS rollout . I'll try to get that Stroke Impact form you mentioned.
I suppose my frustration lies in the fact that I provided correspondence from my GP and Neurologist detailing my afflictions, particularly my hemiplegia and spasticity. Is it too much to expect the NDIS to work out that these conditions impact daily life?
My question was specifically about advocacy. To be honest, after the ordeal of transferring from Newstart to DSP, I just don't have the energy to keep fighting the bureaucracy by myself anymore. Other than trying to find money for a lawyer, does anyone know of anyone out there who can help with this?
