Absence Seizures

Thank you for posting your question on Enableme and starting this conversation. I am sorry that you are experiencing absence seizures and losing your bearings when you have them.   

Seizures are not uncommon after stroke and know that you are not alone. Here is some information

Here are some answers from the Facebook community.

Mark Garner - I also suffered seizures for a number of years post stroke. I am on Tegretol morning and night 600mg, helping immensely. I suggest a visit to your neurologist to find the right balance.

Debbie N Denis Malone - Yes. I haven't had them for a while. It's 6 years my stroke. I used to call them my 'missing moments '. Was very weird. Hubby used to say I would get the stares.

Kath Tosic - My husband had several one lasting several hours shortly after his stroke two years ago.
In the end the worked out it was being caused for him by his sodium levels being two low. (Had to be monitored and he had to drink sodium high drinks and at one stage even additional sodium in meals.)

Ian Peppiatt - Yes, an absent seizure was the first sign to my wife post strokes that further problems were happening.
Absent seizures became night time seizures, and I believe I’ve also had some daytime seizures. It’s scary to think that there are minutes unaccounted for, and what could possibly happen during those minutes.

Alan Emmons - I have had 8 strokes and yes have lost time and sometimes takes me ages to remember things I’ve done easy before or have said before

Thanks to everyone who replied.  I've decided against medication for the moment (I'm already on enough) but I don't drive anymore.  Hopefully they don't get any worse, or change.
