Has anyone donated blood after having a Stroke?

I just called the Heart Foundation to find out whether I could donate blood while I'm taking Asprin and the lady informed me I'll NEVER be able to donate blood because I've had a Stroke. I'm a little upset seeing as Australia's blood banks are so low and I have the Universal blood type (O). Stroke was due to pure bad luck and a large PF?, I'm otherwise healthy, young and fit.

Hello,

The Australian Red Cross Blood Service are unable to accept blood donations from stroke survivors. One of the reasons for this is that the antiplatelet and anticoagulation medications often prescribed after a stroke increase your risk of bleeding.

Check out the Blood Service website for other ways that you can help, http://www.donateblood.com.au
