Hi Debstar,
Thanks for your question. We are sorry to hear about your husband’s stroke and the impacts from his stroke. It sounds like you are both going through a really difficult time. It is great that you are reaching out for support because there is help available.
GP support
Is your husband back at home? If so, a good starting point for him would be to see his GP. His GP can arrange access to all health-related specialists.
The GP may write a referral to a neuro-ophthalmologist. I am unsure of your location, but a neuro-ophthalmologist can be found in a public hospital outpatient specialist clinic, or in a private practice.
His GP can also make referrals to other allied health professionals. They may help you access a community rehabilitation centre as part of a hospital network which may include:
- A Physiotherapist and Occupational Therapist for left sided weakness, coordination, and tremors.
- A Speech Pathologist for speech difficulties
His GP may also make referrals to other medical specialists such as:
- Cardiologist for blood thinning medication
- Neurologist to oversee care post stroke.
