Hi mobytep,
Thank you for your question. We are very sorry to hear about your wife and the limited return of movement in her arm and leg. Unfortunately there isn't any quick fix to restoring the movement in her arm and leg, particularly five months on. Ongoing rehabilitation - continuing to work with physio and occupational therapists are your wife's best hope. Building on any small return of movement is key and this leads to further movement and rewiring of the brain. Repetition and practice is very important. How many hours a day or week is your wife practising exercises in rehabilitation?
You might like to check out our resources on movement and exercise and upper limb management.
Have the physios tried electrical stimulation, mirror box therapy or other appropriate treatment techniques? Has your wife got any flickers of movement in the arm anywhere? You can read more about treatment techniques in our clinical guidelines under the rehabilitation sub section (the new ones are due to be released in the coming months).
If you wish to discuss recovery and therapy further please don't hesitate to call StrokeLine to discuss further on 1800 787 653.
Best wishes,
Simone (Occupational Therapist for StrokeLine)
