I haven't heard of much of this done in Australia, but from what I have read, it is common in the United States. Have you found many local doctors who recommend or perform this?
Hi my husband had this procedure done to help with his bottom eyelid drooping. The top and bottom eyelid was stitched together just on the outer edge. This did help in protecting the eye. He also had a gold weight put into the eyelid as because of nerve damage he could not close the eye to blink. This also helped in protecting the eye. Both procedures were quite easy to have done, the eye obviously was swollen and bruised for a week or two after. I hope this is of some help to you.
