Hi Samantha,
It’s positive to hear that your dad is making some gains in his recovery.
Unfortunately it is extremely difficult to access public rehabilitation after having received private services.
Depending on the residential care facility, there is usually access to a small amount of physiotherapy. We are unable to recommend a specific facility, however I’d encourage you to call those in your area and ask about the intensity of therapy that they can provide. I would also suggest investigating his eligibility for a Transition Care Program (TCP). TCP provides short term low level therapy either in someone’s home or a residential care facility. Your dad would first require an assessment from the Aged Care Assessment Service (ACAS).
I’d also encourage you to call StrokeLine, 1800 787 653, as we may be able to provide further suggestions once we know more about his situation.
Best wishes,
Alana – StrokeLine
