Hi,
Thank you for your question. The balance problems and falling sensations that you describe may have come from your stroke/ bleed on brain. When you spoke to your doctors did they look into your lying, sitting and standing blood pressure and did they refer you to physiotherapist or a falls clinic?
Changes to your blood pressure can cause you to feel giddy or like you are falling. If this change is large or low to start with, the doctor may investigate further. The doctor can also look into other medical concerns leading to these sensations.
A physiotherapist may be able to provide you some ongoing support in relation to the physical aspects of balance and may perhaps assess you for vertigo which may be causing the falling sensations.
Sometimes balance issues and falls can be very complex and may need a holistic approach. If you have had any falls, near misses, have a fear of falling or reduced confidence, a falls clinic may help. This is a multidisciplinary service usually with a medical professional, physiotherapist and occupational therapist. You could see each professional in a one off appointment to investigate falls in relation to health and medications, balance and mobility, vision and glasses, fall hazards in the home, feet and shoes etc.
You may be able to access the community rehabilitation centre in your local hospital for physiotherapy or a falls clinic. To get a referral to a physiotherapist, falls clinic or community rehabilitation centre, see your local doctor and they can refer you.
