Hi Hannah,
I'm sorry to hear about your stroke and the difficulties that you are experiencing.
I hope that the following suggestions can help you find another occupational therapist (OT):
- Speak to your retiring OT to see if they know of anyone suitable
- Ask your GP about a referral to the Princess Alexandra Hospital outpatient OT service. This service may be free or heavily subsidised. A large hospital like this will have OT's who specialise in stroke and upper limb treatment
- Contact Occupational Therapy Australia for more information on private OT's in your area. They have a 'find a private practice OT' search engine where you can specify the location and experience of the OT that you require. You may be eligible for some funding for these sessions through the Medicare Chronic Disease Management Plan - your GP will need to refer you to this plan.
If you have any further question, or you'd like to speak with one of our health professionals, please don't hesitate to contact StrokeLine on 1800 787 653 (Mon-Fri 9am-5pm EST).
Best wishes,
Alana - StrokeLine
