Hi,
To survive a stroke and then to be faced with disability is a very challenging and often frightening situation. Stroke can have a significant impact on your not only your physical abilities but your mental and emotional health. Your relationships can be affected, as can your roles and responsibilities, all contributing to low levels of confidence.
I would recommend reaching out to fellow stroke survivors for support here on enableme, via our Facebook page, or at one of our local support groups. There are lots of inspirational stroke recovery stories out there and people are often willing to share their ideas on how to navigate the recovery journey. We can also provide you with support and advice on StrokeLine (1800 787 653).
Check out our Improving Self Confidence blog. It suggests some great strategies on how to improve self-confidence such as surrounding yourself with positive people, taking up an enjoyable hobby and setting realistic recovery goals.
There may also be further recovery to be made in your handwriting, balance and walking. An Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist can help you set goals and design a suitable therapy regime. We can also provide goal setting advice on StrokeLine.
Please don’t hesitate to call us if we can be of any further help.
Best wishes,
