Hi,
Great work in pursuing the computer and teacher’s aide work. It sounds like you’re motivated to give anything ago!
My first recommendation would be to look at the interests that you had before your stroke. Did you enjoy reading? Or maybe cooking or going out for coffee? From these interests we can then look at specific activities or groups that you could join. We are more than happy to explore this with you further on StrokeLine (1800 787 653).
Other ideas for staying busy include: volunteering; spending time with friends and family; arts and crafts, attending a book club, or joining a local stroke support group.
In terms of your right hand use, there are modifications that can be made to your computer to improve accessibility, alternatively an IPad or tablet may be easier for you to use. An Occupational Therapist can provide further assessment and treatment of any arm or hand difficulties that you may be experiencing; they can also give you specific strategies on how to use a computer and other equipment around the home.
Please don’t hesitate to call us on StrokeLine so that we can support you in finding some enjoyable activities to ‘keep busy’.
Best wishes,
Alana
