Hi Lyn,
Thanks for sharing your question on EnableMe. We are sorry to hear about your stroke and the difficulties you are having.
Unfortunately the pins, needles and numbness you describe can be an ongoing impact of the stroke and can be very frustrating for many. Seeing an occupational therapist and physiotherapist who are familiar with sensory retraining after stroke might be helpful. Your GP can refer you to community based rehabilitation. Or alternatively, you could look at the Occupational therapy Australia’s ‘find a private OT’ and select ‘Neurological Conditions’ in the area of expertise when you search. Here is the link https://www.otaus.com.au/find-an-occupational-therapist.
Another option is to get a referral from your GP to a pain clinic. You can find one here: https://www.painaustralia.org.au/. Pain Australia is Australia’s leading pain advocacy body working to improve the quality of life of people living with pain, their families and carers, and to minimise the social and economic burden of pain on individuals and the community
Here are some resources I think you might find helpful on vision and senses and leg functioning and a podcast on touch and sensation.
