Hi there,
I’m sorry to hear about your stroke and the ongoing difficulties you have. Speech and vision problems are common following a stroke, however recovery varies for each individual. Are you still seeing a speech pathologist? Has your OT suggested strategies to assist with the vision difficulties?
It sounds like you’ve been doing a great job at persevering with therapy. This can be really frustrating when you aren’t seeing the improvements you’d like to. You might want to talk to your therapists about taking a short break from therapy and/or about reviewing your recovery goals. There may be different types of activities or exercise that you could be doing to help progress your recovery.
You also mention that you have pain. Is this new or long term? If the pain is new, I would encourage you to seek medical assistance urgently. If long term, I’d suggest speaking to your GP or neurologist about your symptoms as soon as you can. You could also speak with your rehab therapists about a referral to a pain clinic to further investigate. It’s important to find out the cause of the pain so that the right treatment is arranged.
Please contact us if you’d like to chat about this further (1800 787 653, AEST 9am-5pm, Mondays-Fridays),
All the best,
Lisa (Speech Pathologist for StrokeLine)
