Hi there,
I’m a Speech Pathologist myself so I can sympathise with your voice problems. Voice changes can occur following a stroke. Have you seen a Speech Pathologist or an Ear Nose and Throat Doctor (ENT) before?
If not, I would suggest asking your GP to refer you to an ENT who will put a small camera up your nose to view you vocal cords. They’ll assess the health, structure and movement of your larynx (voice box) and explain why you are losing your voice.
The ENT will then be able to advise if you’d benefit from surgery, medication and/or voice therapy. If they feel that you’d benefit from therapy they will refer you to a Speech Pathologist who will work with you to devise a therapy plan of strategies and exercises to help improve the quality of your voice.
You’re more than welcome to give me a call on StrokeLine if you’d like to discuss this further (1800 787 653, 9am – 5pm AEST, Mondays-Fridays).
Best Wishes,
Lisa (Speech Pathologist – StrokeLine)
