Hi Shaz,
We are so sorry to hear about your stroke and the difficulties you’ve been having.
Many stroke survivors experience pain after stroke. A pain management clinic can provide special programs to help you with your pain. Your doctor can arrange access to a pain clinic if appropriate for you. If you are experiencing issues with moving your arm and wrist, you could look into seeing a physiotherapist (PT) and occupational therapist (OT). To access PT/OT, speak with your GP about referral to a community rehabilitation centre or chronic disease management plan (which entitles you to five Medicare subsidised sessions).
You can read more about pain after stroke here, including treatment types.
It would be great to speak about this with you in more detail, as the more information we have, the better. If you would like, you are welcome to email your contact number to strokeline@strokefoundation.org.au or call us on 1800 787 653 between 9am-5pm AEST Monday-Friday.
Warm regards,
Chloe & Kath

Hi Shaz, I too had a left basil ganglea haemorrhage in September 2009 and have mild pain in my right side. Over the years, I have slowly lost movement in my right side and tried botox injections twice to help my gait, but to no avail. After physical exercise, my right arm and wrist need a chance to recover, as well as my leg. I had a fall 2 years ago and jammed my sciatic nerve in my spine, affecting my right leg and am seeing a pain specialist for that and I will mention my right arm and wrist. Hang in there, you might find a CT guided injection may work for you, as it did for me.
Regards, Richard.
hi shaz , sad to rear your predicament , a stroke effects people differently and has different results on all of us , remember a stroke isnt normal , and some have pain and some dont , i do do suffer and yes tablets might help you, as i said a stroke isnt normal and cause side effects ,the thing is you are busy, and lucky to have kids and watch them grow. After all kids might be confused but they care about you as well. I recommend you see a dr about your pain , there the ones that know about pain management.
Sorry I couldnt give you an answer but do see a dr first.
