Hi David
Thanks for reaching out to us on StrokeLine.
In the early stages after a stroke, the medical team may request for your head to be in the elevated position to help promote optimal cerebral perfusion pressure. Usually when you are discharged from hospital, you will be given some written information and instructions on how to manage your health at home. Instructions might include how much you can exercise, any restrictions to driving as well as positioning and precautions. Unless you have been explicitly asked to maintain a certain level of tilit in your head position when you get home, you are generally given the all clear to sleep in any position you like. If you are seeking further clarification, make some time to talk to your GP.
You can also call us on StrokeLine to speak to a health professional Monday-Friday 9am-5pm.
With warm regards
Carol (StrokeLine)
