Hi Ray,
Thank you for your enquiry. Intra-arterial heparin flushing (IAHF) hasn’t been proven effective to use to treat or prevent stroke in Australia. Anyone wishing to make changes to their stroke treatment need to discuss these changes with their doctor.
It appears the research that has been conducted on this therapy is of low quality. You can read more about it here. You might be interested in referring to our Clinical Guidelines for Stroke Management for more information on the latest evidence based treatment for stroke.
Don't hesitate to contact us on StrokeLine 1800 787 653 (Mon-Fri 9am-5pm AEDST) if you need further information, advice or support.
Best wishes,
Simone, StrokeLine
