Hi Katrina,
I’m really sorry to hear of the issues you’ve had starting a family since your stroke.
Everyone’s stroke is different in terms of their medical history, risk factors and medications. If you are still linked in with a neurologist, this is the best point of contact to seek advice specific to you and your situation. If there are any concerns regarding risks associated with IVF following your stroke, the specialist through the IVF clinic may wish to consult with a neurologist (if you’re no longer seeing a neurologist they may suggest you are referred to one). Together they will be able to discuss with you any risks.
If you’d like to speak with us further on StrokeLine please feel free to give us a call (phone 1800 787 653 – Mon-Fri 9am-5pm AEST).
Wishing you all the best,
Katherine (StrokeLine)
Thank you so much for the advice. I saw my neurologist last year in April just to find out if there were any risks with my getting pregnant, he didn't seem to think there was a high risk of my getting pregnant and then having another stroke. That was when we were hoping to get pregnant naturally (a hope I desperately cling to!). As luck would have it, he retired not long after that, he was an excellent neurologist!!
Thanks again,
Kat
