Hi Garry
Thanks for reaching out on Enableme.
I am sorry to hear about your partners difficulties since the stroke in using their CPAP mask independently.
The CPAP machine has 3 main components, the machine, the CPAP mask, and the tube, all play an essential role in producing and delivering the pressurized airflow throughout the night.
The CPAP mask is an important component, as it guarantees the air where it’s supposed to go.
There are various types of masks that can be used with CPAP machines: full face masks, nasal masks, nasal pillow masks, paediatric masks, and so on.
I would highly recommend going back to the provider of the CPAP machine you are using, explaining your partners circumstances and look at trialling other more suitable options of face mask.
There are certainly other options that may be explored regarding looking at adaptive one-handed aids or modifications to the existing device, but CPAP machines can be costly and CPAP equipment warranties vary by manufacturer, machine, and mask.
This is certainly something to consider when exploring options.
We would be more than happy to talk with you further if you need any more help on 1800787653 or email us at strokeline@strokefoundation.org.au.
