Hi Jay Tee,
Thank you so much for reaching out to us on EnableMe.
We are so sorry to hear of your mum’s stroke and the paralysis and aphasia she is experiencing.
Has she been assessed by a speech pathologist? I would suggest getting a Speech Pathology referral for a communication assessment as there are many different communication apps (and aids) available. A Speech Pathologist could assess your mum’s communication and provide recommendations for the best suited app as well as the best method of communicating with her.
To access Speech Pathology, your mum could apply for a Chronic Disease Management Plan via the GP to access 5 Medicare subsidised sessions. You can find a local Speech Pathologist here. If this isn’t an option you could check out some of the apps listed on our site under speech and language, however it is best to be assessed first to ensure the appropriate app is being used. Another alternative is to contact the Independent Living Centre for further advice on 1300 885 886 as they have apps listed on their website and health professionals who could also assist.
If you would like to discuss further please don't hesitate to call us on StrokeLine on 1800 787 653 (Mon-Fri 9am-5pm AEST).
Best wishes,
Lisa (StrokeLine)
