Hi malcolm,
It is great to hear that you and your husband have booked a holiday!
Most companies will cover pre-existing conditions, but prices vary, so shop around. Generally, the more time that passes after the stroke, the lower the excess costs.
Our StrokeConnections Summer 2018 newsletter covers holiday plans and making sure you are well insured while overseas: https://strokefoundation.org.au/News-and-Events/Newsletters/StrokeConnections-newsletter
The newsletter also makes reference to a great resource called “Prepare for take off: air travel tips for people with a disability”. This is a great source of information for people who are looking to fly after a major medical event.
We also have a blog on travel insurance with some good suggestions of companies other stroke survivors have used: https://enableme.org.au/Users/Profile/My-Blogs/View-Blog?blogId=eff1fd73-ac56-490c-b532-e4bb957da747&userId=95efd72d-61ac-4392-8fe0-2509ac72a2c2
If you would like a copy of “Prepare for take off” emailed or posted to you, or if you would like to chat with a health professional, please feel free to contact StrokeLine on 1800 787 653 or strokeline@strokefoundation.org.au.
Best wishes,
Stephanie (StrokeLine)
