Dear Jeanne,
I’m sorry to hear about your husband’s CAA, and the difficulties you have both been experiencing. If you would like to access respite, and speak to someone about the range of respite services available to you, My Aged Care should be able to help you. The number for them is 1800 200 422.
If you are requiring urgent respite you can also contact the Commonwealth Carer Respite Centre on 1800 052 222.
Best wishes,
Kirsty

Do you have friends that have loved ones in an Aged Care facility? Ask them all & make a list of the positive sounding ones. I found they really varied when I started looking. I would suggest calling your shortlisted places & arrange a tour. If possible, book a carer to care for your Husband at home so you can visit on your own first, have time to see it properly, chat to the staff etc. Hopefully one will feel right. Then you can take him along for a visit so he gets comfortable too.
My family is in a similar position, the full-time carer needs own medical issues attended to & so respite has been chosen & booked. The carer needs looking after too!
By having a respite place you are happy with, you can get on with your own recovery better & it will be piece of mind for an emergency situation too. There are some lovely places out there with caring gentle staff - keep looking & good luck.
