Hi Nats
Thank-you for reaching out to us.
On Strokeline, we are often approached to help stroke survivors make sense of the information they have been provided by their doctors and health professionals.
Making lifestyle decisions after a TIA can be made challenging particularly when you have competing interests. I would encourage you to make some time to speak about this again with your local GP. Whilst your doctor may not be able to tell you that you can’t have anymore children, your doctor will be able to provide you with the knowledge to make a balanced decision. Part of making an informed decision is about having the information available to you, so that you can weigh up the benefits and risks.
I encourage you to write down a list of questions for your doctor that will help you to make an informed decision. For example, what are my risk factors for stroke? How can I control my risks? How much will my risk for stroke increase if I come off my warfarin? Is there an alternative medication that I can take that is safe during pregnancy? What are my risks if I try to get pregnant?
Your GP may be able to answer some or all of your questions. While a neurologist and obstetrician will be able to provide a specialist opinion about your risk of stroke and care of women through pregnancy.
Looking after your emotional health is also important, so continue to reach out to your psychologist. Part of being able to make good decisions for you and your family relies on your emotional well-being being in a good place.
Hopefully you have some practical advice that you can move forwards with. We are also here for you on Strokeline 1800 787 653 if you would like to chat further.

Hi Nat
I don;t have any answers for you but what I do believe is don;t ever feel silly about asking your doctor a question and if tehy make you feel sorry then maybe look for another doctor. I have the most supportive doctor and know taht I wouldn;t have managed my stroke the way I have without their help.
Good luck with it all and I hope you get soem answers
Toni
